Friends of the Lowline is the nonprofit partner to the City of Charleston, building a 1.7-mile linear park through the heart of the peninsula.

The Speedwell Foundation has committed $2.5M to match the first $2.5M raised by Friends of the Lowline, unlocking a total of $5M for the project. To date, Friends has raised $900,000, and Speedwell has released an initial $1M in good faith.
A gift to Friends of the Lowline goes toward closing the pathway funding gap and triggers a dollar-for-dollar Speedwell match directed to Bradford Park. One contribution does two things: it helps bring the Lowline to life and unlocks the funds to complete Phase 1 of Bradford Park. Matched funds are activated upon receipt of the donor's contribution.

One corridor.
For decades, the railroad and I-26 cut a straight line through the peninsula and split the neighborhoods on either side of it. The Lowline turns that line back into a space for community, offering a car-free path connecting North Central to Radcliffborough, open to anyone who walks, rolls, or bikes it.
Bradford Park
The heart of the Lowline, anchored by name.
At the southern end of the Phase 1 corridor is Bradford Park. This will be the Lowline's central gathering space with open lawn, shade, and room for the whole neighborhood to show up.

More Than Fundraising
Raising money is the headline. It's not the whole job.
We raise the private dollars that close the gap the city's budget can't reach. We also sit in the room for permitting and policy, keep eight neighborhoods informed as the project moves forward, and stay on after opening day to fund what it takes to maintain the Lowline for good.

The City of Charleston owns and operates the Lowline. The Friends of the Lowline is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that exists to support the City in its efforts, serving as its nonprofit partner to help ensure the creation and long-term success of the Lowline.
