The Ground Is Moving
The first 1.7 miles of the Lowline are under construction now, on track to open in Summer 2027. Here's what's happening, where, and what it will look like when it's done.

One Path Bringing Neighborhoods Together
For generations, the railroad and I-26 cut a line through the peninsula, separating neighbors who were never meant to be apart. The Lowline exists to undo that. Phase 1A stitches these communities back into one another, block by block, so a walk that once meant a detour becomes a walk you can take on foot, on a bike, with your kids, and with your neighbors.
At the heart of it, Bradford Park gives this whole stretch of Charleston a shared place to gather, the kind of space where the corridor stops being something you pass through and becomes something that belongs to everyone along it.

The Heart of the Lowline
At the southern end of Phase 1, where the corridor opens up, Bradford Park anchors the Lowline as its central gathering space: open lawn, shade, and room for a whole neighborhood to come together. It's the first place along the corridor built specifically for people to gather.

The Speedwell Opportunity
The Speedwell Foundation has committed $2.5 million to match the first $2.5 million raised by Friends of the Lowline, unlocking $5 million total for the project. So far, Friends has raised $900,000, and Speedwell has already released $1 million in good faith.
A gift to Friends of the Lowline closes the pathway funding gap and triggers a dollar-for-dollar Speedwell match directed to Bradford Park. One contribution does two things: it helps bring the Lowline to life, and it unlocks the funds to complete Phase 1 of Bradford Park. Matched funds are activated as soon as a donor's gift is received.
